Shocking Accident --- The Sheboygan Herald gives the following particulars of a sad case of accidental shooting:
June 2, 1873

A farmer named Christian Wilke, of the town of Mosel, with his wife and child, attended a baptism at the house of his brother William, in the town of Wilson, on last Monday. He there met another brother, Frederick Wilke, who is employed as a cooper in this city. After the baptism Frederick, who served several years in the Prussian army, picked up a musket, loaded with shot, for the purpose of explaining to some of his friends the Prussian manual of arms. As the gun was loaded he carefully removed the cap; but, unfortunately, this precaution was not sufficient. While he was nourishing the gun about it went off. The shot passed through two open doors and five struck his brother Christian in the breast, and three lodged in the arm of his sister-in-law, inflicting a severe wound. His brother died almost instantly. A coroner's inquest was soon after held and a verdict was rendered that the shooting was accidental.
