Mr. Wilke died today, another well-known and respected settler of our town, leaving behind a grieving wife and seven children. Mr. Wilke was born in 1825 in Werningshausen, Duchy of Gotha, and was therefore at the time of his death in his 67th year of life.
He came to America in 1852 and soon settled in Town Mosel; in 1863, he married Wilhelmine Steinhaus and was blessed with nine children, of whom two are dead, namely, Adolf and Gustav, who drowned on May 25 in 1890 in Lake Michigan.
The mortal remains of the now deceased Mr. Wilke were buried in the St. John's Cemetery on Sunday, with Pastor Holzapfel leading the mourning.
Like the two deceased mentioned, rest in peace.
