Herbert Sommer

Herbert A. Sommer, 88, of 2225 Plymouth Lane, Sheboygan, died Wednesday, June 25, 2005, at St. Nicholas Hospital.

Born April 25, 1917, in the Town of Mosel. Herbert was a son of the late Richard and Clara Berth Sommer.

On May 8, 1943, he was united in marriage to Olive Kielsmeier in the Town of Centerville.

Mr. Sommer served his country during World War II in the U.S. Army as a tank Mechanic. He was a life member of VFW Sheboygan Memorial Post #9156.

Herbert was a "Ford" mechanic all his life and worked for the area Ford dealerships. He also enjoyed antique cars and often got a call to lend his expertise when someone was restoring a Model A or T.

Mr. Sommer was a member of Zion United Church of Christ. Herbert loved polkas, dancing, camping and for several years he and Olive were "Snowbirds" that wintered in Arizona.

He is survived by his wife, Olive; his daughter, and son-in-law, Sharon and Mark Wallander, of Sheboygan; two grandchildren Heather (fiance, Paul Schmerse) Wallander of Appleton and Shawn Wallander of Sheboygan; one brother, Marvin Sommer of Sheboygan, a very close friend, Roger Lahm, and nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Gertrude Hickman and Adeline Cline.

Funeral services will be held at 4 p.m., Friday, June 24, at Zion United Church of Christ, 1125 N. Sixth St., with the Rev. Dr. Steve Pedersen, pastor of Zion United Church of Christ, officiating.

Relatives and friends are welcome at the church on Friday from 2 p.m. until the time of service. Interment will be in the Chapel of Eternal Light.
