The following article appeared in a local Mayville newspaper in 1975:
Maggie Peterson Berg, 82, of Mayville. She was born in a log cabin, the last of 13 children in Norway Township, North Dakota. Her parents, Andrew Peterson and Anne Dorthea Larsen Peterson came from Norway and were some of the first settlers in the Gran Church area. Maggie is still a memeber of Gran Church. Maggie's dad, Andrew, was a Civil War veteran and in the North's Navy. Must have been that Norske background. Not to many Dakota pioneers that served in Uncle Sams Navy in the Civil War. Maggie married Melvin Berg in September 10, 1936. They farmed for awhile, then moved into Mayville where Melvin became the city's handyman. He worked for 40 years doing local painting and carpenter work. Maggie remembers her youth, the wild plums, choke cherries and the wild Stikesber from the Goose River, and woulldn't a gooseberry pie be the greatest. Maggie appreciated the birthday party from Gran Church, and thanks everyone for an excellent day.
