After 63 years of continuous residence in the Gran community of the Goose River Valley, Peter Martimus Peterson, 66, died at his farm home Tuesday evening, July 18, 1933, from heart trouble. Mr. Peterson had been ailing for the past two years but his last illness extended over a period of less than a week.
Born in Kilbourn County, Wisconsin, September 26, 1867, Mr. Peterson came to Dakota Territory with his parents in 1871. He was a member of that colony of early settlers who established Gran church. The family homestead is located only half a mile south of the church.
On Jan 9, 1892 he was married to Miss Kristi Knudson, taking up their residence on the family homestead. Later, in 1908, they moved to the present home in the same township.
To this union eight children were born, four of whom still survive. They were Albert, who was killed in World War I, twin sister Clara who died in infancy, Clarence, who died in 1909 from tuberculous. Surviving members of the family are Sarah (Mrs. S. C. Rugsven), Dena (Mrs. M. Evans), Agnes and Emil, all of Mayville.
Mr. Peterson is also survived by six brothers and three sisters from a family of 12. They are Carl, Norman and Maggie, of Mayville, Theodore, of Blanchard, Henry of Blabon, Arthur of Havre, Montana, Clara Hove of Genesee, Idaho, and Mrs. Martha Sather of Moscow, Idaho. There are also four grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Saturday afternoon at the Gran church with Rev. Hj S. Froiland officiating. Burial will be made at the cemetery there beside the grave of Mrs. Peterson who died in January, 1929.
Sympathy for the sorrowing family is general in their hour of bereavement.
