Phyllis A. Nelson, 68, 6775 Carnot Rd., Forestville, died July 8 in Green Bay at St. Vincent Hospital.

She was born May 22, 1928, in the Town of Gardner to Louis and Artyice (Starr) LaViolette. She graduated from the Norwegian American Hospital School of Nursing in Chicago as a registered nurse. After working in Chicago she moved to Milwaukee to work at Columbia Hospital, after taking a post graduate course in obstetrics. She later returned to Sturgeon Bay and worked at Door County Memorial and Algoma Memorial Hospital. After going blind in 1970 she attended and graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay with a degree in social work. She was a member of the Wisconsin Council of the Blind and a member of St. Peter Evangelical Lutheran Church. July 12, 1952 she married Philip Nelson at Tanum Lutheran Church.

Survivors include her husband, Philip; seven sisters, Mildred (Lawrence) Monfils, Brussels, Vivian (Wayne) Johnson, Cleveland, Virginia (Charley) Meunier, Kellnersville, Donna Nicholson Sturgeon Bay, Shirley (Fred) Grapentine, Manitowoc, Doris (Daryle) Wolske, Algoma, Fay (Willard) Kolstad, Forestville; three brothers, Keith LaViolette, Casco, Roy (Mary) LaViolette, Sturgeon Bay, Louie (Susie) LaViolette, Brussels; three sisters-in-law, Jane LaViolette, Manitowoc, Ruth J. Nelson, De Pere, Ruth O. Nelson, Lenox, Illinois; one brother-in-law, Ralph (Romaine), De Pere, and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother Kenneth, and two brothers-in-law, Tom Nicholson and Donald Nelson.

Funeral services were Thursday at St. Peter Evangelical Lutheran Church, Sturgeon Bay, with Rev. Darrick Kolterjahn officiating. Entombment at the Shrine of the Good Shepherd Masoleum.

Friends called at Forbes Funeral Home Wednesday evening and Thursday at the church until time of services. Devotions were conducted Wednesday evening at the funeral Home.
