Edgar A. Gumm, 68, a Town of Mosel farmer resident and a former town treasure, died Monday evening at St. Nicholas Hospital after a lingering illness.
He was born on July 17, 1896, in Town Mosel, a son of Mrs. Minnie Gumm and the late Peter Gumm. He attended rural school and on March 5, 1921, was married to the former Esther Goetsch.
The couple spent their entire lives on the homestead farm.
He was a lifetime member of St. Mark's United Church of Christ in the Town if Mosel, and served on the church council, and was a charter member of Kuhfahl-Meyer-Scheib Post 387 American Legion, of Franklin, serving as post commander and finance officer for several years.
Mr. Gumm also was a director and agent for Plymouth, Meeme and Lakeland Insurance Co., and a veteran of World War I.
Survivors are his mother, at Sunny Ridge; two daughters, Mrs. Conrad (Violet) Rausch and Mrs. Gilbert (Marion) Dedering, both of Kiel; two sons, Robert on the homestead farm, and Milton of Kohler; 11 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. William Bird of Nebraska, and Mrs. Ella Schwartz, Milwaukee; one brother, Herman Gumm of Sheboygan. He was preceded in death by his wife in 1951 and by two children.
Funeral services will be heldat2:30 p.m. Thursday at St. Mark's United Church of Christ at the Town of Mosel. The Rev. Merlin Huebschman will officiate and burial will be in the church cemetery.
Friends may call at Walter H. Ahrens Funeral Home, at Howards Grove from 3 p.m. Wednesday until 11 a.m. Thursday, and then at the church from noon until time of service.
Legion members will hold memorial services at the funeral home at 8 p.m. Wednesday. A memorial fund has been established in Mr. Gumm's name.
