Howards Grove -- Peter Gumm, 75, died at Memorial Hospital on Sunday morning at 4:20 o'clock following a lingering illness. The son of Mr. and Mrs. Peter Gumm, Sr., he was born on Feb. 5, 1868, in Town Mosel.
On Nov. 6, 1892, he was married to Miss Minnie Conrad. After their marriage the couple live in Sheboygan for one year and then on a farm in Town Mosel for 28 years. The last 22 years of their life have been spent in Town Mosel at their home on Highway 141 after they retired from active life.
In 1942 Mr. and Mrs. Gumm observed their golden wedding anniversary with four different celebrations.
Mr. Gumm was supervisor for the town of Mosel for four years, assessor for nine years and for 18 years a council member of St. Mark's Evangelical and Reformed church in Town Mosel of which he was a faithful member all his life. A kind and loving father, Mr. Gumm was greatly devoted to his home and family.
He is survived by his wife, four children, Edgar on the homestead in Town Mosel; Herman of Sheboygan; Mrs. Lillian Wernecke of Fairview, Kas., and Mrs. Harvey (Ella) Schwartz of Chicago, 11 grandchildren, one great-grandchild, two sisters, Mrs. Minnie Lorenz, Mrs. Charles Ringer, and a brother, William Gumm, all of Sheboygan. Two brothers and three sisters preceded him in death.
Funeral services will be conducted on Wednesday afternoon at 1:30 o'clock at the Walter H. Ahrens Funeral home in Howards Grove and at 2 o'clock at St. Mark's Evangelical and Reformed church. The Rev. Carl Schmahl will officiate and burial will be in the church cemetery.
The body can be viewed at the funeral home beginning at 10 o'clock Tuesday morning. The casket will not be opened at the church.
