Henry Roethel, aged 71, life-long resident of Town Meeme, passed away suddenly Friday afternoon at his home, after an illness of six months duration. Mr. Roethel suffered an apoplectic stroke on June 9, and several light strokes since that time. Another stroke on Friday morning, which resulted in his death, ended many months of suffering. Born in Town Meeme, May 15, 1861, Mr. Roethel attended the public schools there and later the parochial school in town Herman. He was confirmed on March 29, 1874 at the St. John's Evangelical church at Schwartzwald by the Rev. F. Moccke. Then together with his brother he conducted a cheese factory at Thiensville for several years, later operating his own factory at School Hill. In 1890 Mr. Roethel bought a farm which he owned and worked until 10 years ago, when he retired and sold it to his son, Oscar.
Mr. Roethel was married to Miss Emma Boeldt, who passed away in February, 1895. He was then untied in marriage on Dec. 10, 1895 to Miss Eliese Schulz of town Herman.
Besides his widow, Mr. Roethel is survived by the following children, Mrs. George Feldman, Mrs. Henry Mauck, Jr., town Herman; John of Batavia, George and Oscar of Meeme, Mrs. Norbert Grunewald of Howards Grove, Hugo of Oostburg, Reinhold of Meeme, Miss Hildegarde Roethel of Sheboygan and Arvin, at home. There are also fifteen grandchildren, one great grandchild, three brothers, George of Thiensville, Fred of Meeme and Christian of Schleswig, and his aged mother-in-law, Mrs. Mathilda Schulz. One daughter died in 1899.
The funeral will be held at the home and at St. John Evangelical church at Schwartzwald. The Rev. F Mohme will officiate and burial will be made in the St. John cemetery.
