Richard served his country in the United States Army during the Korean conflict and was a member of the POW Nam 1Bunch reunion.
He liked football and baseball, his favorite teams were the Cincinnati Reds, the Cincinnati Bengal's and the Ohio State Buckeyes. Richard enjoyed traveling, especially out west but most of all loved camping with the grandkids and spending time with the family.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his son, William Erick Ballenger and siblings, Betty Ward, Mary Camp, Ethel Howard, Martha Waugh, Kathryn Fielitz, John Ballenger, Charles Ballenger, Virgil Ballenger, Roger Ballenger and Robert Ballenger.
