BALLENGER, John W. Jr. 90, a lifelong resident of Springfield went to be with his heavenly Father on Friday, January 16, 2009 in Good Shepherd Village. He was born September 6, 1918, the son of John William and Fammie Elizabeth (Davis) Ballenger, Sr. John was a member of Maiden Lane Church of God and Elderly United. He retired from WPAFB with 23 years of service. John was preceded in death by his parents; wife Dorothy M. Ballenger; son Roger Ballenger; daughter Sandy Kay Ballenger; step daughter Judith Ann Mayes; 5 brothers and two sisters. Survivors include his daughter Vickie Scurlock of Springfield; three brothers Richard (Erika) Ballenger of Urbana, Joe Ballenger of Boise, Idaho, and Herbert (Lucy) Ballenger of South Charleston; three sisters Ethel Howard and Martha (Charles) Waugh both of South Charleston, and Betty Ward of Springfield; six grandchildren; four step grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; eleven step great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
