Dick was born in the community of Paruna in Harper County, Oklahoma. Dick was the ninth child born to William Christopher "Will" Naylor and Estella (Warren) Naylor. Five of Will and Estella's ten children died in infancy. As a young child, he and his family moved to Balko, Oklahoma. Dick and and his wife farmed and ranched in the Balko community. He is preceded in death by one son, Darrell Naylor, his parents, three brothers, Lawrence Naylor, Alvin Naylor, and Irwin Naylor and one sister, Nellie Wahl.
