Gladys A. Wilke, 93, formerly of 2113 N. 20th St., passed away Saturday, Nov. 5, 2005, at Morningside Health Center.
She is the former Gladys Huhn, born Jan. 16, 1912 in Sheboygan, a daughter of the late William and Wilhelmina Fenn Huhn. She attended Pleasant Hill Grade School in rural Cleveland. At the age of 16 she became the housekeeper for Art Speckman family. On June 7, 1933, she was united in marriage to George Wilke in the Town of Centerville. The couple was married 48 years before George preceded her in death on Aug. 31, 1981.
Gladys was employed for many years by Diamond Meats.
She was a member of St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church, a member of the Ladies Aid where she had served as it's president, and a member of the XYZ Club.
She also volunteered at the Bethesda Thrift Store.
Her greatest joys were her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and baseball.
She is survived by her two sons, Darrell (Emily) Wilke, Sheboygan, Kenneth (Sharon) Wilke, Sheboygan; seven grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, four step-grandchildren, 11 step-great grandchildren; and two sisters, Lucille Klemme and Corrine Seliger. She was preceded in death by her daughter and son-in-law, La Vonne and James Dassler, one brother and six sisters.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Tuesday, Nov. 8, 2005, at St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church North 13th Street and Lincoln Avenue, with the Rev. Alan Kreschmar, pastor, officiating. Relatives and friends are welcome at the church on Tuesday from 11 a.m. until the time of services. Burial will be in Sunrise Memorial Gardens.
A memorial fund has been established in her name.
The family would like to thank the nurses and staff of Morningside Health Center for the loving care they gave Gladys.
