Hannah Bailey was the eighth of ten children born in Newbury, Massachusetts to Samuel Stewart Bailey and Hannah Chase Bailey. She was a descendent of Richard Bailey (Baylie) of West Yorkshire, England, who sailed to Massachusetts in the 1630s.
In 1834 she married Dr. Luther Rogers of Newbury and together they raised four children: Sarah Louise, Luther Bailey, Edwin Searle, and Lucasta Jane Rogers.
The couple resided in Portland, Maine and Harrison, Maine, before moving north about 1842 to the newly-incorporated town of Patten. They were active in the community, especially the Congregational Church and the Patten Academy.
