Lucasta Rogers was the youngest of four children born to Dr. Luther Rogers and Hannah Bailey Rogers in Patten, Maine. At the age of 22, she was still living at home and working as a schoolteacher. In August, 1876 she married John Glover Thomas, a graduate of the Eastern State Normal School in Castine, Maine. Thomas served briefly as principal of the Patten Academy, where Lucasta had presumably been educated. The couple moved to Portland, Maine, where John Thomas enrolled at the Portland School for Medical Instruction, managed by Bowdoin College. In 1880 Dr. Thomas and Lucasta Thomas were residing at Newbury, Massachusetts. The following year they moved to Worcester, Massachusetts, where Dr. Thomas was stricken with pneumonia and passed away unexpectedly.

Nearly two years later, Lucasta Rogers Thomas was married to Rev. Vincent Moses at Medway, Massachusetts. In the 1890s, while living in Haverhill, they adopted a daughter, Marion Gardner Whitmore Moses, whose father had died shortly after her birth. The couple retired to Newbury, where Rev. Moses passed away in 1912. Lucasta Moses left much of their estate to Congregational missionary societies, as well as providing for their daughter.
