JOHANN HEINRICH BORN

What his relatives have anticipated for several weeks finally took place on Tues. last week when Johan Heinrich Born, an old and esteemed resident of our county, closed his tired eyes in the last long sleep.
The deceased was born 14 Mar. 1815 in Niederndielen, Upper-Hesse, Bez. Biedenkoff and came to America in 1849, first living 3 yrs. in Southampton, Long Island, New York. On 21 Oct. 1852 he traveled back to Germany, then returned to America in Apr. 1853. He came to Manitowoc County and settled in Town Newton, which was then a wilderness, and established a farm. On 21 Aug. of that same year he married Miss Eva Achebach, his now surviving 79-yr. old widow. He worked his farm until 1885 when he relocated to Fond du Lac County and operated a farm there.
In 1894 he returned to Manitowoc County residing with his son Adam who operates a farm in Town Centerville. About 2 mos. ago the robust man fell ill and for the past week it had seemed to his sons that the end was near. His death was due to a combination of illnesses which afflict the very elderly. A good man has been lost with the death of Mr. Born who was one of our oldest friends and has been a subscriber ever since this paper was established. May he rest in peace.
In addition to his above mentioned widow, he is survived by 6 sons, namely, Adam, Heinrich and Louis in Centerville; John and Jakob in Newton; and August in Collins, as well as 17 grandchildren. One son and a daughter preceded their father in death. The funeral took place New Year's Day at the Saxon Cemetery in Centerville under the direction of Pastor Sprengling. The 6 sons carried their father's casket to the grave.
