He was born Nov. 10, 1923 in Connersville, Ind., the son of Clarence and Frances Pankey Wells. He graduated from Greensburg High School in 1942 and attended Purdue University while in the service. He was in the Indiana National Guard for seven years and served in the U.S. Navy Air Corps in World War II. He was a member of the United Methodist Church. He retired in 1984 after 32 years with Public Service Indiana as a commercial sales specialist with the Southern Division. The past four years he had worked part-time for the Columbus Auto Auction. He was active many years in Little League Baseball.
On July 27, 1947, he married Betty Jean Reed in Greensburg and she survives; with one son, Gary Wells, South Port, Ind., one daughter, Mrs. John (Sharon) Wilder, Lafayette, Ind.; one brother, Carl Wells, Shelbyville, Ind.; three sisters, Juanita Buickel, Santa Claus, Ind.; Barbara Eddy, Columbus, and Wanda Headlee, Shelbyville, Ind.; five granddaughters; and several nieces and nephews.
One brother, Nolan Wells, preceded him in death.
Services will be 2 p.m. Monday at the Gilliland-Howe Funeral Home, Greensburg, with the Rev. Robert Campbell officiating.
Burial will be in South Park Cemetery.
Visitation will be at the funeral home from 3 to 8 p.m. Sunday.
Memorials may be given to the American Heart Association or the American Lung Association.
