Carl E. Wells, 71, Shelbyville, died Friday.

Born Aug. 26, 1926, in Orleans, he was the son of Clarence and Frances (Pankey) Wells.

On Nov. 27, 1953, he married Rose M. (Vogel) Wells, and she survives.

Mr. Wells lived in Shelbyville for 44 years, moving from Greensburg.

He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II, achieving the rank of seaman first class.

He also worked for several auto parts dealerships over the course of 25 years, before retiring in 1985.

Mr. Wells was a member of Eagles Lodge No. 766 and American Legion Post No. 70, both in Shelbyville.

Survivors also include a son, Gary Everhart; a daughter, Brenda Everhart, both of Shelbyville; two sisters, Juanita Buickel, Santa Claus, and Wanda Headlee, Shelbyville; two grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by two brothers and a sister.

Friends may call from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday at the Glenn E. George & Son Funeral Home in Shelbyville.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at the funeral home, with the Rev. L.J. Poe officiating. Burial will be in Lewis Creek Baptist Cemetery.

Memorial contributions can be made to the charity of the donor's choice.
