A strange agreement has been admitted to record in the office of the clerk of the county court, at Fairmont. By its terms, Miss Gertrude Lowther, of Ritchie county, agrees to marry S. W. Harden, of Catawba, and to remain his wife until his death, when she is to receive $1,000 from his estate. Harden is 59 years old and was a rich widower. Miss Lowther is 38 years old.

MRS GERTIE HARDEN
Relatives in this city have been notified of the death of Mrs. Gertie Lowther Harden, which took place very suddenly at her home, just beyond the city limits of Fairmont, at 10:30 o'clock on Saturday evening, December 24, 1938.
She was the daughter of William G. and Jennie Kendall Lowther and was born and reared in Ritchie County, where she began life as a teacher, but after her marriage to S.W. Harden of Fairmont, she called Marion county her home. Mr. Harden died a number of years ago but she is survived by one son and several grandchildren. She was a sister of the late Mrs. Louie Beyer and of Minnie Kendall Lowther of this city. One brother. S.H. Lowther of Florida also survives. The funeral will take place this morning , Tuesday, from the home and will be in charge of the Rev. Thomas C. Meredith, a retired minister of the West Viginia Mehodist Episcopal church who is a neighbor. And interment will be made in the Lowther plot in the Harriville cemetery at 1:30 o'clock this afternoon.
She loved Ritchie county, its history, its traditions, and wanted to rest beside her father 'beneath its everlasting hills." M.A. Kendall is an uncle, and numerous other close relatives live in this city.
She married Samuel Wesley Harden on Jan 14, 1905 in Fairmont, WV.
