"R. T. Cole was a native of Macon County, Alabama, having been born there June 8, 1843. He was the youngest of eight children and the son of Noah B. and Wealthy (Taylor) Cole. Cole was reared on his father's southern plantation and was educated in Shreveport, Louisiana. He enrolled at the Shreveport Rangers in the Third Louisiana Infantry April 28, 1861. After his return from the war he resumed farming and was married to Miss Virginia Noel in 1865. In April 1888 Cole was elected to the Louisiana State Legislature. He played an important part in State politics and Shreveport civic interests until the expiration of his life."
