Hiram Sweet, son of John and Minnie Disney Sweet, was born Nov. 1, 1919 at Pawnee Station in Bourbon County, Kan.
He served in the Army during WWII. He worked for Seneca Wholesale for about 11 years prior to working for KPL. He retired from KPL after 18 years service.
He was a member of the Marysville Volunteer Fire Dept., for a number of years.
He married Velma McClain June 4, 1944. There were parents of two daughters.
He moved to Marshall County in 1957, and had lived at the present home, 500 Carolina, since January 1963.
He was a member of the United Methodist Church and of the Seneca Masonic Lodge.
Preceding him in death were his parents, brothers, John, Earl and Jess Sweet and a sister, Rita, who died in infancy.
Survivors are this widow, Mrs. Velma Sweet of the home; his daughters, Mrs. C. G. (Linda) Morton, Marysville, and Mrs. Randy (Deb) Engelken, Seneca; a brother Ray Sweet, Seneca; 3 sisters, Vetra Wilson, Garrard, Mertie Barker, Fort Scott, and Gladys Cezar, Pittsburg, and 3 grandsons, Sean, Brian and Mike Morton.
Services were conducted Tuesday morning from the United Methodist Church, Marysville, with the Rev. Larry Seybold officiating. Burial was in the America City Cemetery near Corning with Masonic graveside rite at 2 p.m.
