KEUNE GUSTAVE 21st Wis. Vol. Inf. Company K Enlisted 03/16/64 Newton Township History--Killed in action, 05/14/64 at the Battle of Resaca, Ga. At the time of his enlistment, KEENE was age 18, single and listed his occupation as a miller. He had blue eyes, light hair and stood 5'4". ******* Killed At Resaca - Information has been received here that Thomas Atridge, Thomas Pearson and Gustav Keune, of Company K 21st Regiment, were killed at the battle of Resaca, Georgia. Jeremiah Riordan of the same company, was wounded in the left arm. Manitowoc Pilot Friday, June 3, 1864 pg. 1 ******* (Note: The surname was mis-transcribed as KEENE. His last name is also incorrectly spelled on the roster of Civil war burials at the Chattanooga National Cemetery in Chattanooga, Tennessee. Information from family researcher)
