Fred Keune, came from Germany to the United States after the death of his wife, who bore the maiden name of Bruns. He was a millwright by profession, and being an expert, he traveled extensively as a stone dresser, drawing large wages. He was born in 1803 and died at the age of 83. He was the father of seven [eight] children, Frederick, Charles, Gustave, Henry, August, Mrs. Minnie Duvenick and two daughters still living in
Germany. Gustave was killed in 1864 while on skirmish duty during the Civil War.
(Note: Gustav was killed May 14, 1864, during the battle of Rasaca, Georgia. He had only been in the army a short time.)

Several of Friedrich's children list Katherine Kraemer/Kramer/Creamer as their mother indicating Friedrich was married twice.

1880 Census records show Friedrich living alone in the Town of Centerville, which is where his son Carl (Charles) ran a grist mill. Son Frederick was also a miller, first at Neshoto, then Mishicot and later Oslo. Son August was a butcher and son Henry was a locomotive engineer. August and Henry moved to the Upper Peninsula of Michigan and later the state of Washington. Daughter Minnie Keune Duveneck and her husband farmed in Newton, WI.
