Melvin K. Blandford, 78, of Lower Burrell, passed away Wednesday, Sept. 26, 2012, in South Florida Baptist Hospital in Plant City, Fla. He was born Dec. 30, 1933, in New Kensington, to the late Gordon J. and Wilma (Nonamaker) Blandford, and had lived in the Lower Burrell area most of his life. He had worked as an engineer for Bell Telephone of America for 36 years. Melvin was a member of Puckety United Presbyterian Church in Lower Burrell and the Pioneers of Bell Telephone. He was an avid golfer and enjoyed traveling and spending time in Florida and with his family. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, Gordon, Alfred and Larry Blandford. Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Dolores J. Blandford; daughters, Linda Finley, of Natrona Heights, and LuAnn Blandford (Robert Spangler), of Plum; two grandchildren, Patrick Finley and Tara Finley; two great-grandchildren, Christian Finley and Chloe Finley; a sister, Phyllis (Jeff) Burkot, of North Hills; a brother, Gary Blandford, of Lower Burrell; sisters-in-law, Lillian Blandford, of Leechburg, Dorothy Blandford, of Apollo, and Paulette Hein, of New Kensington; and numerous nieces and nephews. Family and friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday in the FRANK F. GIGLER FUNERAL HOME, 2877 Leechburg Road, Lower Burrell, PA 15068, where everyone is invited to attend services at 11 a.m. Tuesday. Burial is private. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Heart Association, P.O. Box 163549, Columbus, OH 43216-3549.
