Mary Pfeiffer passed away unexpectedly at her home in Arcata on March 11, 2004, at the age of 82. Mary was born in Idaho, one of nine children. She was a graduate of Washington State University and a social worker for the Humboldt County Social Services Department, retiring after more than 30 years of service.

She is survived by her husband, Carl A Pfeiffer; daughter, Michelle ; son, Jim (Petra); stepdaughters, Lyla and Dixie ; sisters and brother-in-law, Blanche Flajole and Delores and Gene Vellina; sister-in-law, Betty Wernette; grandchildren, Cheryl (Oliver) , Treva , Debbie (Dan) , Kevin , Kenny , Wendy (Craig) , Candace (Tye) , David , Scott , Aaron , Tracy , Steven ; and numerous great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews. She also leaves her precious little tea cup poodle, Katie.

She was preceded in death by her son, Tom Reed; her granddaughter, Debra Damme Cooper and five sisters and one brother. Memorial donations in Mary's name may be made to the donor's favorite charity.
