Celesta Lorene Murphy Services Set Thursday
Celesta Lorene Murphy, 84, died Tuesday, March 21, 1978, in Westhaven Nursing Home. She was the wife of Claude Murphy, Murphy's Hardware founder.
Services will be held Thursday at 1:30 p.m. in First United Methodist Church, with Dr. Charles Wells officiating. Burial will be in Fairlawn Cemetery. Strode Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Those who wish may make memorials to Oklahoma Medical Research.
Friends may call at Strode Funeral Home until 11 a.m. Thursday.
Born Oct. 23, 1893, in Denison, Kan., she was the daughter of G.A. and Cora Ferrell, and came to Oklahoma with her parents in 1901. She married Murphy on Jan. 23, 1912, in Guthrie. They moved to Coyle in 1919 and to Stillwater in 1926.
She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, the Bernhardt Women's Fellowship, Service Sunday School class, Lioness Club, Merry Matron Sewing Club and a charter member of one of the early flower clubs.
Preceding her in death were one son, Marlin, in 1938, and one daughter, Mrs. Claudine Murphy Peek, in 1955.
Survivors include her husband and one son, Alvin Murphy, two grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Also surviving are two sisters, Mrs. Ruth Yates, Guthrie, and Mrs. Alta Short, Oklahoma City.
