Born June 9, 1892, in the Town of Centerville, the son of August and Anna Stoever Lutze, he engaged in farming. On Oct. 27, 1917, he married Hertha Wagner of the Town of Centerville. He served with the armed forces in World War I from 1917 through 1919 in France, and upon his discharge he returned to the Town of Centerville where he operated a farm until 1946 when he retired and moved to Cleveland.
Mr. Lutze was active in civic and church affairs. He served as chairman of the Town of Centerville from 1947 to 1959; 10 years as president of the Manitowoc County fair board; 20 years as president of the local chapter of Aid Association for Lutherans; was school treasurer of District No. 2 in Town of Centerville for a number of years; a member of Ss. John and Peter Lutheran Church at Cleveland, he served as a trustee of the church for three years. He was also a member of Cleveland VFW Post No. 8974.
Survivors are his wife; two sons, Gerhard on the home farm at R. 1, Newton, and Eugene of Sheboygan; two brothers, Richard of Cleveland and Robert of Sheboygan; one sister, Mrs. Fred (Frieda) Schmidt of Cleveland, and four grandchildren. Two brothers and a sister preceded him in death.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Ss. John and Peter Lutheran Church with the Rev. Samuel Kugler, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Friends may call at the Stoltenberg Funeral Chapel at Cleveland after 7 p.m. Friday. The casket will not be opened.
