ELDRED ALLEN "SHERIFF" BERGNER

Eldred A. "Sheriff" Bergner, age 84, of 613 N. 7th St., Manitowoc, died
Saturday evening, Nov. 4, 2006, at Holy Family Memorial Medical Center,
Manitowoc.
Sheriff was born Aug. 31, 1922, son of the late Elmer and Helen (O'Leary) Bergner.
He graduated from Lincoln High School, class of 1940. On May 5, 1962, he married
Alice Mary Lohse at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Manitowoc. She preceded him in
death on October 24, 1991. Sheriff served in the U.S. Army Air Force from 1942
until 1946. He then attended Carroll College from 1946 until 1948. Sheriff then
served in the U.S. Army from 1948 until 1965, retiring as a Master Sergeant. He
then worked for Manitowoc Engineering from 1967 until 1986. He was a member of
the Knights of Columbus Council 710 where he was a 3rd Degree Knight. Sheriff was
also a member of the American Legion Drews Bleser Post No. 88, Fraternal Order of
Elks No. 687, Kappa Epsilon Fraternity, the Manitowoc Yacht Club, and St. Francis
of Assisi Parish. Sheriff loved to bowl, was an avid softball player, and was
elected to the Lakeshore All Sports Hall of Fame.
Survivors include one brother-in-law: Raymond Waak, Manitowoc; and four nephews:
Thomas, Christopher, Stephen and his wife Suzy Waak, and Albert Lohse and his wife
Janna. He is further survived by grand-nephews, grand-nieces, special friends
Connie Kubichka and her husband Roger and Lena Bruening. He is further survived
by other relatives and many friends. He was preceded in death by two sisters-in-law:
Margaret Waak and Evelyn Lohse; one brother-in-law and sister-in-law: Rennie and
Lois Lohse and a special friend Eddie Bruening.
Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 8, 2006, at St. Francis of
Assisi on Waldo. Officiating at the Mass of Christian Burial will be Rev. David
Hoffman with burial to follow at Evergreen Cemetery, Manitowoc. Full military
graveside rights will be accorded by the American Legion Drews Bleser Post No. 88
of Manitowoc.
The family will greet relatives and friends from 4 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 7,
2006, at the Pfeffer Funeral Home and Cremation Care Center, Manitowoc, where a
prayer service will be conducted by Sister Michael at 7:30 p.m. The visitation will
continue from 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 8, 2006, at St. Francis of Assisi on Waldo
until the time of services.
The Pfeffer Funeral Home and Cremation Care Center, Manitowoc had the privilege of
assisting the Bergner family with funeral arrangements.
