Theodore "Ted" Bender was born one of five children in rural Maryland in 1904. He was named for the 1904 U.S. presidential candidates, Pres. Theodore Roosevelt (R) and Alton Parker (D) running in the election before his birth. In 1926 he married Marie S. Winkler and had two daughters, Jeanne in 1928 and Dorothy in 1932. Ted was an avid baseball fan, fisherman and farmer as well as being employed at Johns Manville Co. and McCormick Asbestos Co. during his productive adult years and was a supervisor at the time of his passing. His two daughters gave birth to 5 grandchildren: Kenneth, Linda, Jeffery & Michael and Jeanne. Unfortunately, he lost his wife Marie in 1962. Ted had relied upon her greatly and loved her very much. His own death was very sudden, occurring 5 years later while enjoying steamed crabs with a friend. If it were possible for a Marylander to choose an activity while passing on, that would be a top choice. Ted was 62 years young.
