SHERMAN.
Died at Salem, Oregon, June 23, 1904, Jacob Sherman, aged 69 years.
Jacob Sherman was born March 28, 1835, at Newcastle, Richland county, Ohio. Came to Knoxville, Iowa, in 1857, where he took up his profession of school teacher, following that occupation until 1862, when he enlisted in Co. G, 40th Iowa Infantry, serving until the close of the war, when he was honorably discharged at the time of the disbanding of his regiment.
Mr Sherman was a devout Christian, being a member of the Evangelical Luthern church from boyhood. He was well known to the older residents of this vincinity, residing here from time to time from 1857 to 1890, when he removed to Oregon.
Two brothers and two sisters survive. Charles and Salisbury Sherman, of Talent, Oregon; Mary C. Reaver, of Des Moines; Elizabeth Rogers, of Shelby, Ohio.
The remains arrived here yesterday morning over the Q. The funeral occurred at 3 o'clock, ex-members of Co. G acting as pall bearers. The services at the grave were conducted by Rev Burma. Interment in Graceland cemetery.
