Mary NAZOR, daughter of Jacob William NAZOR (b Germany; d Ohio) md. Susanna SCHERCK (per FamilySearch.org); born 28 August 1803, Pennsylvania; died age 74 on 27 April 1878, Knoxville, Marion Co., IA; buried at Graceland Cemetery, Knoxville, Marion Co., IA.

Mary is buried in Lot I.48 near her son Henry H. (1837-1861; age 24) and son Jacob (1835-1904, age 69). Mary's headstone inscription is recorded on the RIGHT SIDE of the same headstone as son Henry H. SHERMAN and another son Jacob SHERMAN.

Birthplace is identified in the 1880 and 1900 federal census for her daughter Mary SHERMAN.

Mary married about 1828 (probably Richland Co., OH) to Henry SHERMAN, son of Salisbury SHERMAN and Catharine WHEALAN.
Henry SHERMAN and Mary NAZOR had seven children living to maturity, all probably born in Richland Co., Ohio:
Sarah J. SHERMAN (info on her is currently unknown)
Mary Catherine SHERMAN (1831-1910) md John REAVER
Salisbury SHERMAN (1833-1910) md Mary Jane BRADY
Elizabeth SHERMAN (1834-1904; died about age 7)
Jacob SHERMAN (1835-1904; died age 69)
Henry H. SHERMAN (1837-1861; died age 24 in Civil War)
Charles Whealan SHERMAN (1841-1921; died age 79) md Orilla May GROOM.

Excerpt from son Charles' biography gives insight into the life of Mary (NAZOR) SHERMAN. While having been born in Pennsylvania her father moved his family to Richland Co., Ohio where it is apparent that she met and married Henry SHERMAN.

"The mother of our subject, Mrs. Mary (Nazor) Sherman, was a native of Pennsylvania, and the daughter of William Nazor, who was born in Germany and emigrated to America in 1801. He settled in Lancaster County, Pa., where he engaged for a time in farming, then changed his residence to the wilds of Richland County, Ohio, where he cleared another farm and spent the remainder of his days."

Her husband, Henry, died in Nov 1844 when he "was injured while shoeing a refractory horse" dying in his prime at age 42.

Mary "lived on the homestead in Richland County, Ohio, until 1858, then joined her children in Knoxville, Marion Co., Iowa, where her death took place in 1880 [April 1878]. Of the sons and daughters comprising the parental household seven lived to mature years, viz; Sarah J., Mary C., Salisbury, Jacob, Henry H., Elizabeth and Charlie W. The latter, the youngest child, was but three years old at the time of his father's death. The faithful and devoted mother kept her family together until they were able to go out into the world and do for themseves (sic)."
