A Mass of Christian Burial for Vernon David Amell, a 92-year-old Wilsonville resident, will be at 10 a.m. Friday in St. Cyril Catholic Church in Wilsonville. Recitation of the rosary will be at 7:30 p.m. Thursday in the chapel of Young's Funeral Home in Tigard. He died Tuesday in a Portland care center of complications arising from a stroke. He was born Sept. 6, 1899, in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, where he was raised and graduated from high school. He moved to Oregon in 1917 and married Freda Ann Zimbrick in 1925. Mr. Amell worked for Machwhyte Wire Rope Co. for more than 40 years until his retirement as warehouse supervisor. He was a member of St. Cyril Catholic Church in Wilsonville. Survivors besides his wife include daughters, Arlene Meyer of Beaverton, Annette Engle of Milwaukie, Nancy Chaput of Tigard and Linda McCarthy of Gresham; 13 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. Entombment will be in Crescent Grove Cemetery Mausoleum in Tigard. The family suggests remembrances be contributions to St. Cyril Catholic Church in the form of donations or Masses.
