From Michael's Civil War file:
He enlsited in Co. F, 34th Regt., Indiana Infantry as a private on Sept. 21, 1861 at Anderson IN. In August 1862 he was wounded in the left eye on board a wrecked steamer "Prince", near New Madrid MO. He and Addison Keever went on board and while prying open some boxes, Keever struck the shell with a crowbar and caused an explosion.
He was detached Oct. 31, 1863 in Pass Cavallo TX. He re-enlisted in the Veteran Volunteers Dec. 14, 1863 in New Iberia LA. He was discharged Sept. 13, 1865 in Indianapolis IN due to disability. Elswhere the file says he was discharged in St. Louis.
In a 1866 affadavit, he says the sight in his left eye is entirely gone. He received a pension in 1874 and his widow received a pension in 1912.
