Death & burial location from "Card Records of Headstones Provided for Deceased Union Civil War Veterans, ca. 1879 to ca. 1903". The card identifies Charles J. Capper as being in the F 34th Indiana Infantry, gives his date of death, and indicates he is buried at the "Govt Hosp for Insane, Wash. D.C.".

His Civil War pension file says that Charles, also known as Jackson, contracted chronic diarrhea in July 1863 while on duty in Vicksburg, Mississippi. While on a forced march from Vicksburg to Jackson, he was stricken with sunstroke which caused insanity.

He enlisted Sept. 5, 1861, and was discharged at New Iberia, Louisiana, Dec. 14, 1863.

His exact birth date is not known, however one page in his Civil War pension file says he was 51 years old in 1886.Co F 34th IN Inf
