Robert Owen Conger was the son of John Spencer Conger and Corintha Jane (Palmerton) Conger. He began his working life as a farm laborer, including time on brother Rolla P. Conger's farm in Shelby County, Indiana.
For 23 years, he and his wife Eda Dell (Morey) Conger lived in Sheboyan Falls, Wisconsin, where their three children were born. They married May 26 1886 in Clinton, Lenawee County, Michigan.
He worked at the Bricker Woolen Mill in Sheboygan Falls for 25 years until a local wool sorter and buyer was no longer needed. About 1910, they moved to St. Marys, Auglaize, Ohio, when Robert took a new job at the St. Marys Blanket Company.
In 1898, he ran for election to the Wisconsin Assembly from 2nd District, Sheboygan County, on the People's Party, placing third (State of Wisconsin blue book). He was a member of the Sheboygan Falls Assembly, No. 80, Equitable Fraternal Union, a social and insurance group.
NOTE: R. O. Conger descends from immigrant John Belconger who came from Norfolk, England, to Massachusetts in 1665, then to New Jersey in 1667. John, married to Mary Kelly and then Sarah Cawood, is the founder of the Conger family in America.
