Cartoonist. Links was the artist of the teenage comic "Bobby Sox." Born in Oakland, she moved with her family to San Francisco. She then was hired by "The Chronicle's Women's World" department in 1940 where she was soon drawing a character named Mimi. Links then became a pioneer woman cartoonist. In 1944, she created the character Bobby Sox, alter Emmy Lou, which ran in The Chronicle for over 35 years. At the height of its popularity, Bobby Sox ran in close to 100 newspapers. A television series was based on Emmy Lou Harper, and the theme song, "Emmy Lou," was sung by Frankie Avalon. In her last years, Links began making ceramic sculptures and drew greeting cards, first for her own company, and then for Hallmark Cards.
