Theodore Athanaropoulas
Abt 1888 - 1908

Theodore was believed to be about 20 years old when he passed from this life at Utah State Hospital in Provo, Utah. His death certificate (see attached) states he was born in Greece, the son of [?] Athanaropoulas and [?] P. Geirgakas, single, had worked as a laborer, former resident of Salt Lake City, Utah, and had been a patient eight days at the time he died on September 24, 1908.
Utah State Hospital Forgotten Patients Cemetery Project: Theodore was among 600+ patients of the Utah Territorial Insane Asylum (now known as Utah State Hospital) between 1886 and 1960, buried in the Provo City Cemetery, most in unmarked graves, given a pauper's burial, alone without recognition or ceremony. The Utah State Hospital Forgotten Patients Cemetery Project requested donations to create a monument with individual plaques to honor each of these precious spirits. Thankfully, it was completed and dedicated to them October 10, 2018, in Provo City Cemetery.
