Cadet Ardohain
Abt 1870 - 1902

Research shows that Cadet Ardohain* arrived in Ogden, Utah, via San Francisco, California, on the Southern Pacific train on October 5, 1902, in a demented condition. He was confined to the women's cell of the county jail and committed to the asylum (Utah State Hospital) on October 13, 1902. No birth date or parents listed in cemetery records. His brother, John Ardohain, sent a few telegrams to verify arrival and to have his belongings returned to him. One telegram stated John was looking to return Cadet to California. Cadet Ardohain was believed to be about 32 years old at the time of his passing at Utah State Hospital in Provo, Utah, on November 7, 1902, three weeks after arriving.
Utah State Hospital Forgotten Patients Cemetery Project: Cadet was among 600+ patients of the Utah Territorial Insane Asylum (now known as Utah State Hospital) between 1886 and 1960, buried in the Provo City Cemetery, most in unmarked graves, given a pauper's burial, alone without recognition or ceremony. The Utah State Hospital Forgotten Patients Cemetery Project requested donations to create a monument with individual plaques to honor each of these precious spirits. Thankfully, it was completed and dedicated to them October 10, 2018, in Provo City Cemetery.
*Discrepancy: For spelling of last name between cemetery record (Ardahain), USHFPP memorial plaque (Adrohain), primary sources and several news articles (Ardohain); see them under photos tab.
