He was 7 years old when his father died. His mother could not raise all those children by herself. He was raised in Seal Cove by John W. and Sarah (Belbin) Harris . They also had a son named William Edward. Skipper John operated a schooner “Lillian” that several of the Adeys of Hants Harbor served on. He was a junior crewman. He had no schooling.

At the age of 14, he was told he would have to look after himself He worked on sealing ships. He had to kill the baby seals which would cry like babies, and his eyes would tear up when he told the story.

His mother attended his wedding in 1886 at Hants Harbour.

3 June 1903 - William, Sarah and 8 children moved to Moncton, NB

Changed spelling of Adey to Addy sometime between 1911 and 1915.
When Mabel was in HS, the name was pronounced Addy, and a teacher said that they were spelling it wrong, so they changed the spelling. It was never formally changed.

While employed by the International Railway as a carpenter, he had a stroke, fell and broke his hip Aug 1929 and was never again able to return to work.
