John L. McDaniel, age 91, died Thursday, April 20, at the Horton Hospital. He was a retired farmer and made his home at 216 W 10th, Horton.
John, son of Stephen and Sena McDaniel was born March 5, 1873 in Trenton, Mo. At the age of nine years, he with his parents came to Kansas in a covered wagon. They settled near Capioma in Nemaha County.
On April 6, 1896, he and Miss Millie Belle Hart were married in Seneca. She preceded him in death on July 7, 1951.
He had spent most of his life on a farm near Granada. In October 1943, he retired from farming and moved to the home in Horton. He was very active until his last illness that lasted from Monday until Thursday. He was a member of the Modern Woodman Lodge.
He is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Rubie McConnell of Hiawatha and two sons, Edward and George McDaniel, both of Wetmore. He also leaves ten grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.
The funeral service was conducted at 2:30 p.m. May 3 (Sunday) in the Chaney Chapel in Horton with the Rev. Don W. Frogge officiating. Miss Mary Jean Hall was the soloist, Mrs. Irene Mydland, organist. The pallbearers were Raymond Hart, Ivan Bryant, Robert McDaniel, Roy Winter.
