Amos was the 2nd oldest of 14 children of Ransom K and Lydia (Rex) Kendall. He was born in Va ( now WV) and moved to Kansas after serving for the union in the Civil War. He married a widower, Harriet Kenyon Bailey and with her two children lived in Tonganoxie, KS after he married her on April 19, 1870. He farmed and lived the remaining life in Tonganoxie, KS. He had 6 children. Lillian,Lydia, Charles, Genevieve,Lela, and William.
