John Burg Chilton Times June 8, 1878

KILLED BY LIGHTNING
While enjoying the company of Mr. H. A. Rathert, of Brothertown, on Wednesday last we were pained to learn that John Burg, of New Holstein, this county was killed during the storm on June 2d, by a streak of lightning. Singular to relate the fatal dart came from Heaven while the deceased was reaching for a holy record, he being a devoted Christian. This fact is substantiated. The deceased left a wife and three for four unfortunate youngsters. His age was about 30 years. In addition we will have to add that the balance of the family miraculously escaped although the roof and floor were fearfully splintered. The deceased was a Prussian by birth and bore an industrious reputation.
