Although there are only a handful of grave markers remaining, there were many people buried here long ago. Unfortunately there are no good records to indicate the names, or the locations, of burials in the cemetery. Many graves were originally marked with wooden markers or had no markers at all. Also, many graves were moved to the Mandan Union Cemetery when it was established.
In 2008, during construction on Mandan's municipal water reservoir, graves were unearthed in an area that was thought to have no burials. Remains of 42 people were unearthed and re-buried elsewhere in the cemetery grounds.
To get to the cemetery, go to the end of 14th Ave. SE. There is a large water storage tank behind the houses. Just inside the gate at the tank, take the trail heading south. Soon the trail turns to the east and then turns back to the north. Follow this back till you are directly east of the water tank. This area is now a horse pasture. The visible gravestones are scattered about the area and all are surrounded by some type of fencing to keep the horses out. The county mows this area occasionally but often the grass is quite tall.
