Roland R. (Fiddy) Fiedler, 72, of Cleveland, died Saturday at Morningside Nursing Home, where he had been a resident or the past two months.
He was born Sept. 22, 1914, in the Town of Centerville, a son of the late Herman and Minnie Begemann Fiedler. He attended Cleveland schools, and served in the U.S. Army from 1942 to 1946 and in the South Pacific Theater during World War II.
On Dec. 28, 1946, he married Irene Leonard at St. Wendel Catholic Church parsonage. The couple lived in Cleveland.
He was employed at Polar Ware Co. for 35 years, retiring in 1976.
Mr. Fiedler was a member of Ebenezer United Church of Christ, the Cleveland V.F.W. Post No. 8974, and had served with the Cleveland Volunteer Fire Department.
Survivors include his wife; a son, Thomas of Cleveland; two sisters, Mrs. Hilda Olm of Kiel, and Mrs. Hertha Schorer of Howards Grove; and three grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by three sisters and a brother.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Stoltenberg Funeral Chapel, Cleveland. The Rev. Dean Miller, pastor of Schwartzwald United Church of Christ, will officiate. Burial will be in St. Johannes Cemetery, Cleveland.
Friends may call at the funeral home from 4 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, and Wednesday from 8 a.m. until the time of services.
The Cleveland V.F.W. Post will hold memorial services there at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday.
