Melvin C. Dassler

Melvin C. Dassler, 74, of 1703 Erie Ave., died this morning at Sheboygan Memorial Hospital.

He was born Dec. 9, 1910, in Cleveland, a son of the late Herman and Alvina Ohmikan Dassler.

He came to Sheboygan as a child.

On Jan. 25, 1934, he and Elizabeth Martin were married in Sheboygan. The couple celebrated their golden wedding anniversary in 1984.

Mr. Dassler served in the U.S. Navy and the Naval Reserve from 1929 to 1951.

He worked at Mayline Co. for seven years, retiring in 1978, and was previously employed at R-Way for 27 years.

He was a member of St. John United Church of Christ.

Surviving are his wife; three sons, James, Donald and Lawrence, all of Sheboygan; three daughters, Mrs. Paul (Shirley) Boggess of Middleburg, Fla., Mrs. Joyce Halbach of Naples, Fla., and Mrs. Dennis Greene of Sheboygan; 21 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and one sister, Mrs. Myron Glassen of Madison. He was preceded in death by one daughter, a sister and a brother.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Nickel-Lippert Funeral Home, with the Rev. Vernon Jaberg, pastor of St. John United Church of Christ, officiating. Burial will be at Lutheran Cemetery.

Friends may call at the funeral home from 4 to 9 p.m. Wednesday and on Thursday until the time of service.

A memorial fund has been established in Mr. Dassler's name.
