Funeral services for Wilbur L. "Buck" Haggerty, 93, were held Tuesday, Jan. 9 at the Glendo Community Church in Glendo, with Delbert Dick, Minister officiating. Interment was in the Wheatland Cemetery. The John Prince American Legion Post No. 15 of Glendo conducted military graveside rites.
Mr. Haggerty died Friday, Jan. 5, 1990 at Converse County Memorial Hospital. He was born July 10, 1896 at Creston, Iowa the son of Walter T. and Anna J. (Miller) Haggerty. As a young boy he moved to western Nebraska, working on ranches as a cowboy.
He came to Wyoming in March 1916 and homesteaded south of Glendo. He served in the United States Army during World War I. During furlough from the service he returned to Glendo and married Frances Hinges in October 1918. He returned to service and following his discharge in July 1919 he and his wife returned to their homestead and added his father's and brother's places to his.
He worked at various jobs such as road construction and breaking horses to earn extra money. He sold his place in 1955 to Jack Jones. He and his wife moved often, taking various construction jobs. They returned to Glendo to live their retirement years. Frances died Aug. 26, 1968.
He was married to Fern VanBuskirk on June 2, 1980 in Wheatland. They resided in Glendo until he entered Michael Manor in 1984, where he resided until the time of his death. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles, Aerie Number 306 in Casper, he was a 50 year member.
He is survived by his wife, Fern, of Casper and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife and his brother.
Serving as pallbearers were James Hughes, Stan Hooley, Bruce Haggerty, Chuck Haggerty, Leo Foy and Jim McVay.
A memorial to the Arthritis Foundation or to the family in care of the Converse Funeral Chapel, P.O. Box X, Douglas, Wyoming 82633 would be appreciated by the family.
