Marie Ann Macy, 95, passed away at her home in Coeur d’Alene on Wednesday, Aug. 4, 2010.
Marie was born in Chicago, Ill., on Sept. 24, 1914, to Frank and Louise Block.
Marie married George E. Macy on June 13, 1936, in Chicago. In 1951, the couple moved to Idaho where they built a home from the ground up. She had worked as a department store cashier in Chicago. However, after getting married, Marie’s primary livelihood was taking care of her husband, children and home. Marie also worked alongside her husband distributing papers for the Spokane Chronicle for many years. Additionally, she sold Tupperware.
She was an active member of St. Thomas Catholic Church in Coeur d’Alene. She was an avid gardener and loved working in the yard. After retiring, Marie and George enjoyed traveling, hiking, fly-fishing, and square-dancing together — amongst other activities.
She is survived by four children: Thomas R. Macy of Post Falls, Rosemary L. Barnes of Coeur d’Alene, Jean E. Malen-McKay of Portland, Ore., and Alice A. Leffler of Fort Myers, Fla. Marie is also survived by 16 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
Marie is preceded in death by her parents, Frank J. Block and Louise (Gadzinski) Block; her husband, George E. Macy (Dec. 26, 2000); her brother, Edwin Block (Oct. 6, 2000) and her two sisters, Dorothy Block (June 6, 2004) and Sylvia Block (Jan. 17, 2007).
A funeral Mass will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday, Aug. 9, 2010, at St. Thomas Catholic Church in Coeur d’Alene. Marie will be cremated, and her ashes will be buried with George’s at St. Thomas Cemetery in Coeur d’Alene, at a later date.
Services have been entrusted to English Funeral Chapel in Coeur d’Alene.
