We're fairly sure that Elizabeth is the second child of Isham/Isom Gwin and Mary Canterbury Gwin to survive infancy. She was actually born in what was then western North Carolina some eight years before that area became the present state of Tennessee. She grew up in Sevier Co., TN, and met and married a neighbor there in the Wear Valley, David Denton, in about 1803. The Dentons accompanied her parents and a host of others who migrated to the new free state of Indiana's southern counties of Crawford, Harrison, and Orange, largely to escape the evils of slavery.
