She was born on May 22, 1913, in Fond du Lac, a daughter of Mathias and Rose Gilles Freund. On April 26, 1934, she married Walter P. Karls at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Jericho. Mrs. Karls was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Jericho and its Christian Mothers. She found great joy in growing gardens and playing with her special friend, Muffin. She especially enjoyed family celebrations.
Survivors include six daughters,
Betty Dziadek and
Amanda Socha, both of Calumetville,
Irene Mand and her husband Leo, and
Diane Diedrich and her husband James, all of Fond du Lac,
Mae Schmitz and her husband Eugene of Green Bay, and
Alice Lemke and her husband Rexford of Pipe; four sons,
Eugene and his wife Betty of Peebles,
Bernard and his wife Sharon, and
Andrew and his wife Mary , all of Pipe, and
Vernon and his wife Karen of Calumetville;
34 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchldren; one great-great-granddaughter;
one sister, Viola Zitzelberger of Fond du Lac; nieces and nephews; and two sisters-in-law, Louise Bruckner of Oshkosh and Marie Nenning of Stockbridge.
Preceding her in death were her husband on July 31, 1963; one brother, Alvin; one son-in-law, Richard "Boots" Socha; and three granddaughters.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at Uecker-Witt Funeral Home and at 11 a.m. at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Jericho. The Rev. Peter Coffey will officiate. Burial will be at the parish cemetery. Visitation is from 3 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home where a rosary service will be held at 7 p.m. A memorial in her name has been established.
