William Wernecke, 71, Franklin, well-known insurance agent, passed away early this morning at Sheboygan Memorial Hospital following a three weeks' illness. Born March 5, 1889, in Town Newton, Manitowoc County, the son of William and Mary Wernecke, he was married to Bertha Helming Jan. 27, 1912, by the Rev. C. T. Martin at Immanuel Reformed Church. Following their marriage they farmed near Ada and later near Franklin. In 1941 he was appointed an agent and director of Town Herman Fire Insurance Co., and in 1957 was named treasurer and also an agent of Heritage Mutual Insurance Co. of Sheboygan. He served as Town Herman treasurer for a number of years and on the school board of the Franklin Graded School. He was a lifetime member of Immanuel Church of Christ in Town Herman, served as a deacon in the church for a number of years, and was a member of the Church Brotherhood.
Survivors are a son, Raymond of Franklin; a daughter, Mrs. Rick (Ruth) Zogg of Sheboygan; four grandchildren and three great grandchildren; and three brothers, Calvin of Newton, Herbert of Webster Grove, Mo., and Roland of Cedarburg. His wife died Feb. 8, 1953, and his parents and three brothers also preceded him in death.
